Wolfpack Hustle beats JetBlue in race to Long... →
kellyegan: The six bicyclists racing a JetBlue flight from Burbank to Long Beach Saturday proved the power of the pedals, beating the flight by a long shot. The cyclists, members of the urban bicyclist organization Wolfpack Hustle, made the trip in 1 hour and 34 minutes, using the path along the Los Angeles River for most of the trek. AAAAOoOOOOOoooo!

Speckled Bird film in the works →
Just got my monthly Speckled Bird newsletter, one of my favorite regular emails, much more than bank statements and the Coldplay newsletter I signed up for before the internet.  Jonathan’s writing is great and I’m always quite inspired by their creativity.  What a great band and glad to know them. Apparently now they’re working on a film and just finished a music video.

Colloquial Orchestra →
Richmond mastermind, Dave Watkins, fully archived all of his COLLOQUIAL ORCHESTRA performances.  He recently asked me to play in one at Sprout, which I now now share with you.  Some great moments from this extended improvised piece.  We had never played music together but there’s certainly a vibe here.  PJ played an Otomatone, an electronic instrument from Japan that’s a striking...

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake →
We all know PJ Harvey has been making beautiful for years/decades; but this particular album I love.  The song-writing is amazing yet subtle.  The percussion always intriguing yet simple and fits really nicely in the mix. And her vocal performance and recording is something to really listen to.  Porbably as great headphone record.  I know there are other records of hers I should check out, but...

FREEWAYarts project
A few months ago, I was put in contact with Luke Rabin, who is developing a website, FREEWAY arts, to tell the untold story of musicians and what they go through to achieve any success.  Luke is a similar spirit so it was really nice to work with him and I wanted to offer knowledge of the many other musicians I know here in Richmond.  That said, I put him in touch with Scott Clark, Tracy...

SAM AMDION - I See the Sign →
been listening to this record of Sam Amidon’s a lot recently.  I ordered it over the weekend from PLAN 9 and it arrived today. Record stores are more than glad to still provide this service. No shipping costs and quicker than Amazon.   Back to Sam, he was one of the few acts I really wanted to see at SXSW but alas I was double-booked.  Here’s a video from one of his shows there.  Sam...

C&C Drums
as I switch over here to Tumblr, I’m bringing over old posts from the first Booyah Sunshine.  Right now, I’m working with C&C on some new things and they’re even busier over there.  Great people with big hearts and drums.  I’m playing on of their kits next week at Coachella and then will bring home a snare to test out for a while. I wanted to mention I’m now...

Orange Show Sighting
This was a message I just saw from a concert goer via myspace. Sorry Flip, don’t check myspace nowadays, (or update this here blog, working on it). Thanks for the kind words. Your inclinations are right, I am inspired by that feel dont think of it consciously when I play. I’ll try it some time. We came for Thao but wow can you play. Thao is the heart and soul but man you are the...

Ophelia Recording Log
OPHELIA is a record I worked on in the beginning of last year. Seems like a memory of great times from far ago. It is. Jonathan Vassar, one of the band’s three aptly-skilled songwriters, has kept up the following posting during recording and in anticipation of the album release, which was two weeks ago. This record was the most relaxed piece I’ve ever done and I think it shows in the...
